Good evening Rawkers. So. Rolling Stone is beyond lame. You kidding me? Best artists of the decade include Beyonce, Radiohead, Kanye West, Arcade Fire and MIA?
WTF????

Top album of the decade is Radiohead, followed by the Strokes, Wilco and Jay-Z?

What has happened to rock and roll? That is all so lame it hurts. They all should be shoved off the wuss cliff. Think the GOT is gonna puke....

Damn....

Go in peace.... if you can.

G.O.T.

  1. I don't even listen to the radio anymore. Well, unless it's the classic rock station.
    WTF? is right.

  2. I couldn't tell you one single song anyone on that list has ever put out. I don't have a clue who Radiohead is or even what kind of music they play. Rolling Stone is like MTV. When they started they were both great, now they both SUCK DOG BALLS!!!!!!!!
Beyonce? Isn't she Austin Powers girlfriend?

  3. So what are G.O.T.'s top 10 of the decade?

I would have Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in my top 10. Maybe not #3 but somewhere in the top 10.

While it wouldn't make my top 10, Kid A did break some ground and Radiohead needs to be mentioned in this, a decade that admittedly doesn't inspire as much passion as the 60's-80's.

  4. Imma let you finish...ditto to Mr./Ms. Anonymous. Own CDs and/or purchased mp3s of all of the above mentioned artists - not sure why Beyonce is considered as one of the top artists of the decade (except perhaps in the sales department) but you can't argue with the influence of Radiohead and Kanye.

I would argue that the Strokes is considered as rock and roll. However, am surprised that American Idiot by Green Day wasn't up in the list considering the anti-Bush/anti-war theme woven throughout the album.

(and if my memory is working correctly, doesn't a certain band do a cover of a song by Radiohead? Hmmm....)

  5. What we have come to, people, is a repeat of the beat generation -- where if the music/poetry/art was crappy the "cutting edge" critics considered it to be great. That's exactly what Rolling Stoned (too high to have a critical ear?) has done by naming these ultimately pedestrian and derivative bands to the top spots of the decade's music.

Jay Z is an overly hyped whiner who should have been relegated to teaching high school poetry classes -- he can help them rhyme... all the time... and help them climb... etc. Dr. Seuss has better mic skills, hova. (and WTF does that even MEAN, anyway? What's a "hova"? How many names does a playa need?)

Beyonce? No comment. If she likes J to the Z she's got bad taste.

Wilco, Strokes, Radiohead, etc.? Heard it all before. Please.

Sure, there's some good songs in there by each of the bands, but certainly nothing that inspires the G.O.T. Sorry about that....

Best albums of the decade from the G.O.T. coming soon.....

  6. Radiohead, Wilco, Who the hell are these bands and where the hell do you hear them? All the Rap/HipHop stuff is atrocious.

  7. Actually I'm gonna amend my last statement about "ALL Rap/HipHop is atrocious". I actually like some of Kid Rocks Rap/HipHop stuff and I think Eminem is pretty creative(and humourous). OK, so I only like "white boys" who rap!!!!

  8. Jerry- You gotta take a big step out of the '70s to hear these bands that you question. And that doesn't mean '80s REO Crapwagon.

I just left a big Wilco jag where they were almost the only thing that I listened to for about 3 weeks. Now I'm listening to Springsteen's 'The Rising' which I am finding to be even better than I initially thought.

You hear about these bands from folks whose musical taste you trust. You hear about these artists when you are open to the fact that there is always good music being made, it just may not be getting airplay. To me radio is never a primary source for anything. (B!)
