Rage and Audioslave -- best of the "new"?

'afternoon rawkers. Pissy mood, so blog is short.

Related to yesterday's post, two of the best bands in the 90's-00's: Rage Against the Machine & Audioslave.
Would love to know what my Rawkers think about the newer stuff.

Discuss.

Go in peace....

  1. I couldn't name a single Rage song although I do recognize them when I hear them. Too much yelling and crap. The whole Rage, Korn, Limp Bizkit thing I didn't get. When Cornell was with Audioslave they had some good stuff but I believe it was the song "Like A Stone" that Cornell sounded like he was drugged and had marbles in his mouth. The song made you want to jump off a cliff before it was over. Too me a very poor era of music.

  2. Courtney Love forever!!!! Kidding....

Between Rage and Audioslave, Audioslave. Like Jerry, not a big fan of Limp Bizkit and the like - big pile o' steaming crap. For me, loved the alternative hard rock/grunge bands from back in the day like Stone Temple Pilots (up until that lameass video with Sarah Michelle Gellar), Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, and Pearl Jam. Good, solid music. And Alice in Chains. Layne Staley's voice was so unique and distinct..lyrics were hard rock emo, for lack of a better phrase.

For more recent bands, it's all about White Stripes and Foo Fighters for me. Love Jack White's use of special (non-cheeseball) effects to make their rich sounds, and his collaborations (the duet w/ Loretta Lynn was genius). Foo Fighters provide solid, stripped down rock with punk sensibilities and don't take themselves too seriously in regards to thinking they're the best musicians ever. Songs are light enough for chicks to dig, rockin' enough for guys to blare it in their rigs w/o fear of ridicule. Their cover of Darling Nikki alone is reason to be a fan.
